Soft Pretzels with Parmesan and Hard Cider Cheese Recipe

  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ⅓ cup baking soda
  • 1 egg beaten, for egg wash
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour and salt; mix until a dough forms. Knead for 5 minutes.
  3. Let the dough rise for 1 hour in a greased bowl.
  4. Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C).
  5. Dissolve baking soda in a pot of water and bring to a boil.
  6. Shape dough into pretzels and boil each for 30 seconds.
  7. Place pretzels on a baking sheet, brush with egg wash, and sprinkle with Parmesan.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, add garlic powder to the dough.
  • Serve with a hard cider cheese dip for an excellent pairing.
