  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the oil, buttermilk, eggs, food coloring, vanilla, and vinegar until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Allow cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. For the frosting, beat the cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla, mixing until creamy.
  9. Once the cakes are cool, spread frosting between the layers and over the top and sides of the cake.
