  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • coarse salt for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms.
  3. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place in a greased bowl and let it rise for 1 hour.
  5. Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C).
  6. In a pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil.
  7. Divide dough into 8 pieces, roll into ropes, and shape into pretzels.
  8. Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds, then place on a baking sheet.
  9. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  10. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Remove from oven and allow to cool.

Notes

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat in the oven for a soft texture.
