  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the molasses and egg, mixing until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.
  6. Roll the dough into small balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.
  8. Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For added decoration, sprinkle some powdered sugar on top before serving.
  • For a spicier version, increase the amount of ginger and cinnamon.
