Black Forest Cupcakes

Deliciously chocolaty cupcakes topped with cherry frosting and chocolate shavings.

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup sweetened cherry filling
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • ½ cup chocolate shavings

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tray with cupcake liners.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Combine both mixtures and stir well.
  4. Slowly add boiling water to the batter until smooth. Fill cupcake liners halfway and bake for 18-20 minutes.
  5. Let cupcakes cool completely before frosting.
  6. Whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until stiff peaks form. Frost the cooled cupcakes and top with cherry filling and chocolate shavings.

Notes

  • For a richer chocolate flavor, use dark cocoa powder.
  • These cupcakes can be refrigerated for up to 3 days.
