- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup mascarpone cheese
- 1 cup strong espresso, cooled
- 2 tablespoons coffee liqueur (optional)
- 24 ladyfinger cookies
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until pale and creamy.
- Heat the milk in a saucepan until hot, then gradually whisk it into the egg mixture.
- Cook the mixture over low heat until it thickens, then remove from heat and let cool.
- In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form, then gently fold in the mascarpone cheese.
- Combine the cooled egg mixture with the whipped cream mixture.
- In a shallow dish, mix the espresso and coffee liqueur.
- Dip each ladyfinger into the espresso mixture and layer them in a serving dish.
- Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
- Repeat the layering with the remaining ingredients, finishing with the mascarpone mixture on top.
- Sift cocoa powder over the top and refrigerate for at least 4 hours before serving.
